Senator Charles Townsend Passes Away at 68

NEWCASTLE, Wyo. (AP) - Former state Sen. Charles "Chuck"
Townsend has died after a lengthy struggle with cancer. He was 68.
    Townsend died Wednesday at Weston County Health Services in
Newcastle, according to relatives.
    Townsend, of Osage, represented Senate District No. 1 from 2004
to 2010. The district covers all of Crook, Weston and Niobrara
counties and portions of Converse and Goshen counties in eastern
Wyoming.
    Townsend served on several legislative committees including the
Appropriations Committee. Citing health reasons, he did not seek
office in 2010.
    Before entering the Senate, Townsend was head of his family's
ranching and oil production management business. He also served on
the Newcastle school board and was vice chairman of the Petroleum
Association of Wyoming.
    Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at First United
Methodist Church in Newcastle.
