Voluntary Evacuation Order Issued for Wildfire

A 1,200 acre fire south of Glenrock has prompted a voluntary evacuation order.

The Russells Camp fire is spreading to the East, and authorities are asking residents and recreationalists to get out of the area along Cold Springs Road from the junction with the old Fetterman Road South to the Albany County line.

150 firefighters are battling extreme conditions with high winds and rugged terrain and the fire is "zero percent" contained. Crews have pulled back to the Cold Springs Road, where they hope to make a stand against the fire.

The blaze is located in the Medicine Bow National Forest, about 32 miles south of Glenrock, and the smoke is visible from Casper.

The fire broke out Sunday, and the cause is still under investigation.

Anyone who leaves the area, and does not have a place to stay can go to the Douglas Recreation Center.
