Anti-Smoking Ban Petition Turned In

Today was the deadline to turn in petition signatures in the effort to put Casper's tough new smoking ban to a public vote.
Earlier tonight, petition organizers Pat Sweeney and Dan Miner turned in the petition. Both organizers have spent the past few weeks compiling the petition and gathering signatures.
Sweeney and Miner needed nearly 2,000 signatures. In order for each signature to be valid, they must be Casper residents and registered voters. The petition will be reviewed and validated by City Council this week, but Miner says after collecting nearly 3,500 signatures, they're confident it'll be enough.
If the petition proves to have nearly 2,000 valid signatures, it'll then be placed on the November 6th ballot. If it fails, the smoking ban will go into effect September 1st.
