Wed. 5 p.m. UPDATE: Sheep Herder Hill Fire Latest
-As of Wednesday evening, an estimated 15,887 acres have burned by the Sheep Herder Hill Fire.-The fire is 50% contained, and is expected to be fully contained by Saturday.
(Note: The words "containment" and "control" are two very different terms. "Containment" refers to the physical barrier around the fire, and "control" refers to the fire barrier holding up in extreme weather conditions. Fire officials will not say the fire is "contained" until the fire barrier is tested.")
-The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
-The nearby Elkhorn Fire is 100% contained, it has not yet been declared "controlled."
-At least 7 structures remain destroyed, but fire officials believe that number to be higher.
-All roads on Casper Mountain remain closed, and people found trespassing will be prosecuted. When authorities allow people to return onto Casper Mountain, property owners must show proof of ownership before going into the Mountain.
-Authorities have started notifying people if their homes have burned. If you are not sure if your home has been damaged or destroyed, call Natrona County Emergency Management Office at 235-9205.

1. When will the evacuation order be lifted?
- It is unknown at this time when the evacuation order will be lifted as the fire is still active. We encourage people in the pre-evacuation area to continue to be vigilant and to be ready to leave if told to do so.
- The
fire continues to be active and safety concerns such as downed power
lines, falling trees and fire danger will determine when you can return.
Through the weekend we can expect increased temperatures, increased
wind speeds with gusts up to 25 MPH. A cold front is expected to come in
on Sunday.
- The best option would be to call your insurance company directly.
- The American Red Cross has a shelter open at the National Guard Armory at 5905 CY Avenue for people affected by the fire.
- Contact your doctor for replacement of medications. Depending on the severity of the need, the American Red Cross may be able to help with the costs associated with a supply of medication or rental of medical equipment.
- The command of the fire will be returned to the Natrona County Fire Protection District, but this does not mean the fire is out.
