The City of Casper held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday to officially open their new special waste and diversion building. The new Special Waste and Diversion facility will be LEED certified, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
One purpose of the facility is to prevent modern chemicals from damaging the environment, and now the building itself will help further that goal.
LEED certification is based on energy savings, water efficieny, and carbon dioxide emission reductions, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources. The city will know within 6 to 9 months what level of certification they recieve.
