Oil Found in Platte, Threatens Water Supply
Drew Douglas reports, email@example.com
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and BP representatives are investigating spots of oil-sheen rising to the surface along the southern banks of the North Platte River next to Three Crowns Golf Course.
D-E-Q says this should not affect Casper's water supply, but Evansville's intake is just a few miles from the seeps causing officials to shut off their supply.
According to the DEQ, these spots have increased in recent days.
As a result of the sheening, BP has initiated an immediate response plan which includes notification of public officials, sampling the river and attempting to collect oil with absorbent pads.
At this time, DEQ does not believe access to the river should be restricted.
The source of the sheening is unknown.
