Golden Corral Closes for 24 Hours

The Golden Corral Restaurant on Casper's eastside is voluntarily closing its doors for 24 hours, after more than 200 reports of foodborne illnesses in Natrona County.   We have seen a drastic growth in the number of people reportedly sick.  And today, the Casper Natrona County Health Department feels safe to say Golden Corral Buffet and Grill is the culprit.
The health department says they believe a norovirus is an apparent link to the sickness of these people.
Bob Harrington from the health department says, "It is the number one most common foodborne illness in the United States. It's everywhere. Its been in the community for months. But it's sporadic."

Norovirus causes vomiting, diarrhea, sometimes headaches and fevers, lasting 24 to 48 hours.  Officials believe these nearly 200 cases fit that pattern.  And they say Golden Corral Buffet and Grill is responsible.

"They voluntarily came to us.  We did not suggest it.  We certainly did not order it," Harrington said.  "But we very much agree that it is a good thing to do.  They are closing on their own, from a decision in corporate, for 24 hours."
Golden Corral plans to reopen their doors following the inspection.
Harrington added, "They will literally clean and disinfect from top to bottom, everything in sight.  Everything that can be scrubbed, will be scrubbed.  And employees will get reinforced in hand washing. And then we will reinspect tomorrow to make sure they did what they said they were going to do."
