Authorities in Platte County say a Casper man crashed his vehicle into a Chugwater gas station Sunday night, igniting a fire that destroyed the business.

Platte County 9-1-1 received the call around 8:30 Sunday night.

The Chugwater volunteer fire department responded to find Horton's Corner gas station fully involved in flames.

There was also a vehicle inside the building. Crews were able to pull the driver from the vehicle, but a dog inside the car did die.

The driver is identified as 52-year-old John Barberini of Casper. Barberini was not seriously injured, and is currently being held in the Platte County detention center on charges of reckless driving and not having insurance.

Investigators say they do not know why Barberini ran into the building, but say there is no indication that alcohol was involved.

The investigation is continuing.
