New census figures released on Thursday show that Natrona County is the fastest growing county in the state.

The US Census Bureau says Natrona County grew by 3% in just one year from July of 2011 to July of 2012. The county's total population is now well over 78,000. Officials say continued employment growth in oil and gas drilling is fueling the increase, since the county is a hub for mineral extraction services.

Campbell County came in second in growth increasing by 2.8%, while Sweetwater County was right behind with a 2.7% growth rate.

The overall state population grew 1.6%  to more than 576,000.
