Wyoming Student Remembered on Platte River

Family and friends of a University of Wyoming student who died in a tragic accident last weekend gathered on the North Platte River for a unique remembrance Thursday afternoon.

More than two dozen kayakers took to the river to honor 22-year old David Schmitt.

Schmitt was a member of the University of Wyoming swimming and diving team, and those who know him say he was born to be in the water.

One of his passions was kayaking, and the people who love the sport.

That's why river runners came from all over Wyoming and Colorado to pay their respects.

They all agree that Schmitt was not only a great athlete and student, but an even better person.

Schmitt graduated from Kelly Walsh high school in Casper, before going on to major in geology at the University of Wyoming.
