Youth Group Helps to Prevent Flooding
K2's Ophelia Young reports, firstname.lastname@example.org:
The Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' youth group holds a summer camp for teens 14 to 18 from Lusk, Douglas, Glenrock and Casper.
This year, they needed a community service project, and they also have been paying attention to the Platte River's potential flooding.
The city of Casper prepared a sand-bagging site to protect Fort Caspar's caretaker's home.
140 kids convened Friday morning in front of three dumptruck loads of sand.
In two hours, the kids filled 3,000 sand bags. Despite the hard work, the task, they say, was barely a chore.
At the end of the day, the kids brought home something larger than just learning how to sand-bag. They found the importance of community service.
