Gas Station Stabber Sentenced to Up to 50 Years

The Arapahoe man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend in the neck multiple times at the Poplar Common Cents last February was sentenced today in District Court.

Steven Michael Monroe will spend the next 38-50 years in prison.  Although his charge of aggravated assault carries only a ten year prison term, Monroe is considered a habitual criminal so he received more time.  

Prior to the February incident, Monroe had federal court convictions of attempted manslaughter and aggravated assault.
