Walsh Named Casper Police Chief

City Manager John Patterson has selected acting Police Chief Chris Walsh as the new chief of the Casper Police Department.

Walsh began his career with the Casper PD 21 years ago as a patrol officer, and has been the acting chief of the department since Tom Pagel retired at the end of March. He has also worked in many specialty areas including mounted, rifle, and the department of criminal investigations.

Patterson says he feels confident in his choice to name Walsh as chief. "He is extremely well regarded throughout the community." Patterson said. "He has already shown himself to be a leader that is both proactive and creative in his approach to dealing with crime and public safety.  The City Council admires him, and so do I.”

Walsh also has a very distinguished military career.  After graduating from Kelly Walsh High School in 1986 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps as an infantryman, and served until his honorable discharge in 1990.  In 2005 he became a sergeant in the Army National Guard.  In that capacity he was deployed to Iraq, where he led a SWAT team of Iraqi police officers.

A swearing-in ceremony will be held Tuesday morning at 9:30am in the City Hall Atrium.
