Whether there’s white stuff coming down or some rumbles of thunder, no arctic blast will keep Tony J. Amormino from delivering his forecasts weekday morning’s on Good Morning Wyoming from 5:30-7am and the K2 News at Noon. Tony J. joined Wyoming’s News Leader in May 2008.
Tony J. is a recent graduate of Bowling Green State University in 2008. He was busy earning his bachelor’s degree in Meteorology and Broadcast Journalism. While in school, he worked at BG24 News, Wood County’s only live broadcast, as the Thursday Weather Forecaster. He also worked as the graphics designer for the sports department.
While an intern at Fox Sports Network-Detroit logging sports highlights and following the Detroit Tigers announcers. After FSD, he went to WTVG 13abc Toledo working with the morning meteorologist. Tony J. was always at work before the morning met, helped create the show’s graphics, talking to classes about weather, and was typically on the losing end of the daily 25 cent random weather bet. He developed a bad habit by always bringing in the snowstorms and was typically not liked (jokingly) by the morning anchors.
At the age of 4, Tony J. became fascinated with weather upon writing local meteorologist Chuck Gaidica, asking him about "thunder snow."
While his weather forecasts are strictly his own, he takes a lot of pride putting a little flavor of his two idols into his daily forecasts (Sonny Elliot and Jim Cantore). Although the numbers are small compared to older meteorologists, he has seen his fair share of weather phenomena, and always closely tracking hurricanes.
As a native Michigander and Metro Detroiter - look at the backside of your left hand - Tony J. is from the bottom knuckle on your thumb. He is an AVID (letters won’t get any bigger) sports fan. His favorite teams include the Maize and Blue (Univ. of Michigan), all Detroit sports, Princeton Tigers and Idaho Vandals. Among the favorite activities of Tony J. include running and shooting hoops. He loves to watch movies, do anything sports/cards related and attend concerts. He has seen Tim McGraw 6 times, sadly 3 times with the same person in 3 different states. However, his favorite act is Taylor Swift. He loves a good comedy act. His friends and family are important to him and have always been behind him. His time in Casper has been great so far. He looks forward to seeing all the great sites in Wyoming.
Feel free to drop Tony J. a line or send a few weather pictures you might have from not only Wyoming, but from all over the world. Who knows they might just end up on-air during one of his weather forecasts. Stay cool!
