ALICE Training For NCSD

THE SCENARIO IS NEVER THE SAME, ACTIVE SHOOTER SITUATIONS ARE UNPREDICTABLE, STRESSFUL AND OVERWHELMING. BUT OVER AT PATHWAYS LEARNING CENTER, STAFF ARE GETTING PREPARED FOR THE ERRATIC.

<ALICE IS TAUGHT AND TRAINED BY OUR RISK MANAGER, ANDREA NESTER AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. SHE'S BEEN DOING IT FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND ITS JUST ONE CRITICAL PART OF AN OVERALL COMPREHENSIVE SAFETY PLAN.>

IT STARTED WITH A LECTURE, DISCUSSING WHAT ALICE MEANS, AND HOW TO EQUIP IT.

ALERT: WHEN YOU FIRST BECOME AWARE OF A THREAT. THE SOONER YOU UNDERSTAND THAT YOU’RE IN DANGER, THE SOONER YOU CAN SAVE YOURSELF.

LOCKDOWN: IF EVACUATION IS NOT A SAFE OPTION, BARRICADE ENTRY POINTS INTO YOUR ROOM IN AN EFFORT TO CREATE A SEMI-SECURE STARTING POINT.

INFORM: COMMUNICATE AS MUCH INFORMATION AS CLOSE TO REAL TIME AS POSSIBLE.

COUNTER: CREATE NOISE, MOVEMENT, DISTANCE AND DISTRACTION. LIMIT THE SHOOTERS ABILITY TO SHOOT ACCURATELY.

AND EVACUATE.

<ITS ABSOLUTELY VITAL, THAT EVERYBODY IS ON THE SAME PAGE. THAT, GOOD LORD WILLING, WE DON'T HAVE AN ACTIVE SHOOTER BUT IN THE CASE THAT WE DO WE'RE BETTER PREPARED AT THE BUILDING LEVEL, DISTRICT LEVEL, TO ADDRESS OR DEAL WITH THAT KIND OF SITUATION.>

THE TRAINING NOW REACHING OVER A MILLION INDIVIDUALS IN 50 STATES, WAS DONE IN CASPER WITH THE HELP OF THE SCHOOL'S RESOURCE OFFICERS. A JOB IN WHICH THE DISTRICT WILL SEE MORE OF ADDING 3 MORE POSITIONS THIS YEAR. ON TOP OF WORKING ON AGREEMENTS WITH OTHER LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES.

<YOU WILL SEE 9 OF THOSE IN THE NATRONA COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT FROM THE CASPER POLICE DEPARTMENT. ADDITIONALLY WE HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATRONA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE, EVANSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT AS WELL. SO HAVING THOSE RESOURCE OFFICERS BE AN ACTIVE AND ENGAGED PERSON IN THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, IS CRITICAL FOR THE SAFETY OF THE SCHOOL, BUT IT IS ALSO CRITICAL IN BUILDING THOSE RELATIONSHIPS>

TEACHERS WERE PUT THROUGH SEVERAL SCENARIOS…THE BEGINNING OF WHICH AIMED TO SHOW HOW PROTECTION STRATEGIES HAVE CHANGED.

<WE ARE CONTINUALLY INNOVATING OUR TRAINING, BOTH FOR CIVILIAN PERSONNEL, CIVILIAN STAFF INSIDE THE SCHOOLS AS WELL AS OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT RESPONSE TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACTIVE VIOLENT ENCOUNTERS THAT WE MAY SEE WITHIN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY.>

THESE TECHNIQUES WHILE, TRAINED IN CONTROLLED SCENARIOS, ARE KEY SAY OFFICIALS TO KEEPING FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS SAFE. REPORTING IN CASPER DAVID FURTADO K2NEWS.
